The 1 oz. Palladium Canadian Maple Leaf bullion coin was first minted by the Royal Canadian Mint in 2005 and continued with very limited mintage through 2007. After a year on hiatus it was produced again albeit briefly in 2009, giving it the distinction of not only being the first palladium coin minted by the RCM, but also one of the most limited releases in its history. Due to its rarity and unique background, the palladium maple leaf coin has become something of a collector’s item, prized by those who have them. Each maple leaf coin has been minted from 1 troy ounce of the finest 99.95% pure palladium, and as legal tender in Canada, has a face value of $50 Canadian, making the palladium maple leaf a precious metals IRA-Eligible coin. The obverse features the Queen’s effigy, face value of the coin and year minted while the reverse bears the familiar maple leaf, weight and fineness.
