These brilliant uncirculated 1/10 oz Gold Krugerrands are available in random years (year our choice) and contain one tenth of a troy ounce of fine gold. The Krugerrand is a South African gold coin, first minted in 1967 by the South African Mint to help market South African gold. By 1980 the Krugerrand accounted for 90% of the global gold coin market. The name “Krugerrand” is a compound of “Kruger” (the man depicted on the obverse, the 5th President of the South African Republic) and “rand”, the South African unit of currency. This unique 22 carat gold coin had no denomination because its value was linked to the daily gold price. The obverse of the Krugerrand, depicting the effigy of Paul Kruger, was struck from the original die used in 1892 for the Kruger half-crown coin. The reverse was designed and engraved by Coert Steynberg, a famous South African sculptor, and depicted a prancing springbok, a national symbol. In 1980, the fractional Krugerrands (1/2 oz, 1/4 oz and 1/10 oz) were added to the 1 oz Krugerrand making the coin affordable to a broader audience.
